We have a top of the range diagnostics computer which will connect to your car's computer and is mostly used when you have poor running or warning lights on your dash. It will help us to get to the bottom of a fault. A plug in code read differs from a diagnostics job as most people confuse the two. A code read is a basic as it sounds you get told a code and what it might be, whereas a diagnostic is getting that code and digging further into your car's problem, though it may take longer and cost a bit more, you can be confident with our findings. Our mobile diagnostics also carries over to any other components of your car especially if you have an older car with no, or limited computer functionality. We carry out additional checks on braking or suspension issues where we use visual and manual checks of joints and components.

Electrical faults can vary from car to car and if you have any warning lights on your dash or issues with locking and any other electrical problem we would find these things under diagnostics being carried out. Modern vehicles are increasingly the electric components in them and as a result our mobile electrical car mechanics undergo continual training to be able to diagnose and repair as many electrical issues as possible.

As more electrical component are being fitted into cars more fuses are being used too. Fuses act as a barrier from too much power getting to a particular component and causing potentially an expensive replacement or repair. A fuse will effectively sacrifice itself to protect the component and burn out to break the electrical connection to the component so when a particular electrical item isn't working it may simply be that the fuse has blown out. Sometimes a fuse will blow out without there being a specific reason. However, whilst replacing a fuse is a fairly inexpensive repair in itself, without establishing why the fuse blew out, and repairing that - you are likely have the same problem happen again and again. If our diagnostics and checks reveal nothing then it may simply be a case or replacing a fuse.

There is the potential to be many electrical car problems due to the number of interacting components. Most power is taken from the car battery so clearly your battery needs to be in good health. Issues with faulty wiring through a loose connection to corrosion around connections will effect electrical performance. 

Some of the most obvious signs that you have an electrical issue include:  diming or temperamental headlight function, slow engine cranking, unusual noises from around the engine area, poorer acceleration and of cause a warning light on your dashboard. Similarly if your wipers or electric windows are not working this may be due to electricity not reaching their motors. A replacement or spark plugs or a repair to you alternator belt may be the underlying issue. If you start noticing any of these it's worth getting in touch with our mobile auto electrician.

We cannot stress the importance of replacing a timing belt before breaking. Whilst the component itself may look fairly basic in its design, it is a key engine component. A timing belt can also be referred to as a cam belt and for certain makes and models or cars they can also be a chain made from metal. Most modern ones are made from neoprene or nitrile with a nylon facing with some made from Kevlar and polyurethane. The belt's teeth connect the camshaft and crankshaft and keep the timing between them at optimum levels controlling the exhaust valves open and closing times with piston movements. Wear and stretching over time can impact the level of its precision. If these engine functions get out of time then performance will be impacted at best, with engine failure and associated head gasket damage being the most likely result, which will be a very costly repair job!

Regular servicing and a well maintained log book is the best approach, as car manufacturers will recommend timing belt replacement at certain intervals. If however, you have no idea about the history of your vehicle and your car has done at least 40,000 miles then this is definitely an area or car maintenance to be on top of. If you notice unusual engine noises or your engine starts misfiring this could be down to the timing being out. If you are confident enough and your car design allows you to easily see your cam belt then if you can see and wear on the timing belt you should really contact a mobile mechanic to arrange a timing belt replacement as soon as possible.

The suspension system of your vehicle is made up of several components such, springs, shock absorbers, bars along with your car's tyres. Collectively they should work together to help you drive safer and more comfortably by improving stability at higher speeds and lessening to impacts of uneven road surfaces and bumps.
